OurSkinny: a product Review!

March 12, 2013

A few months ago I picked up a copy of People magazine, there was an article about Paula Deen and her family losing weight. I thought it was interesting that each family member used a different method to achieve their weight loss. What stood out to me was Paula’s husband, Michael Groover. He used a product I had never heard of; OurSkinny and claimed it was the easiest diet ever.

I was intrigued and contacted the office headquarters in Savannah, Georgia (a place I hope to travel to soon). I told them that I would like to review the product for this blog. Within a week I had the product in my hands. And it was an entire weeks worth. I gave myself a few days to think about doing the review as someone who wanted to lose weight, versus someone who was just going to try the products for taste. I decided to go full into the program. It has been a fascinating journey for me!

The OurSkinny plan really is easy — I’ve never tried another plan so I don’t know if it is the easiest diet ever — I do know that it has been easy for me! Now, one thing I will say is that you really need to be in the mindset that you are going to follow the plan. Here’s how the plan works; you drink 4 shakes throughout the day (spaced every 2-3 hours — I choose the hours 8:00 am, 11:00 am, 4:00pm and 9:00pm) then you have a bar that you can either have for lunch or dinner. I had mine for lunch. For dinner I followed the plans advice, 3-4 oz. lean meat, lots of veggies, a small amount of “good fat”.

At first I was apprehensive about doing something like this– it seemed so different from how I currently ate. I contacted the health and wellness coach through e-mail and asked if I could still have coffee and wine. (Hey, a girls’ got needs here!) I was told that with moderation I could have both – stick to red (less sugar) and no cream in the coffee.

I love that you get a book with a journal to track what you are eating and drinking — oh, a big rule is to drink water and lots of it. I love that they offer a consultation with your order, I highly recommend taking advantage of that — every single person I was in contact with at OurSkinny has been nothing but helpful, knowledgeable and encouraging.

Here’s some info directly from OurSkinny:

“OurSkinny was created in 2010 by Dr. Paul S. Bradley, a practicing obesity specialist based in Savannah, Georgia. After years of encouraging patients to lose weight—and struggling with his own—Dr. Bradley had a revelation. He decided to stop fighting the fast food urge and create a weight loss solution that feeds people fast and affordably.

The concept is straightforward: great-tasting protein shakes that are portable and do not require any complicated preparation, a delicious variety of low-carb energy bars, a flexible program designed to suit a busy lifestyle, and expert support every step of the way.

The OurSkinny Weight Loss Program has already helped thousands of men and women across the United States lose unhealthy weight and keep it off. Our high protein, low carb shakes and bars—we call them Mini Meals—compare favorably to leading competitor brands, and the diet costs just $10 a day. We provide four delicious shakes, a low carb energy bar, and a few guidelines to help you prepare one healthy main meal of your choosing each day.

OurSkinny’s Nurse Practitioners, Registered Dietitians, Certified Personal Trainers, and Wellness Coaches are always just a phone call or email away, and we offer a free consultation with each and every two- or four-week order in order to support our customers from goal-setting, through transition, and as they maintain their new, healthy weight.”

I’ve got lots and lots to share about this — the shakes, the bars and the weight — how did I do? It’s been three weeks now and I’ll be sharing the entire journey in the next few days! In the meantime check out the OurSkinny website — you’ll see why I was intrigued to begin with! Cheers!
